2024 Conference free-time activities
This conference has been designed to give you free time for networking. There will be opportunities, should you wish, to gather in small groups and share the projects in which you are involved. Apart from that, we have some specific suggestions for those who want to get out and about. These are also great activities for your guests to partake in while you are in workshops!
Meditation Labyrinth
For those who like a quiet walking meditation, there is a labyrinth situated under a grove of pine trees, down by the river, on the western edge of the campus. This is the perfect place to practice a story or to get away from it all.
Bishop’s University’s Sports Complex
Anyone staying in residence has free access to Bishop’s University’s recently renovated Sports Complex.
Foresta Lumina
Foresta Lumina is a magical late-night, luminous experience, but good night vision and steady feet are required for your own safety. Situated in the town of Coaticook which is about forty minutes from Bishop’s, reservations are required. The Forest is open every evening from 9 p.m.
Hovey Manor
For those who have the means and would like to indulge in a five-star dining experience, we recommend Hovey Manor, which is featured in mystery author Louise Penny’s book “The Murder Stone” and is situated in the picturesque town of North Hatley, thirty minutes away from Bishop’s. Reservations are required.
The Lennoxville farmer’s market
*Saturday only* The Lennoxville farmer’s market is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., if you wish to get a taste of country life. A twenty-minute walk from Bishop’s, or a five-minute drive, there is always live music and a variety of home-grown organic items to chose from. On your way back to campus, stop in and visit Clarke’s store established in 1943 and still going strong, that serves a vast farming community and also sells practical outdoor clothing. Truly an institution!
The Uplands Cultural and Heritage Centre
The Uplands Cultural and Heritage Centre also home to the Townships Tellers for almost thirty years, offers an English Tea in the midst their stunning flower gardens. Reservations are required. Tea is available Saturday and Sunday only.
Eaton Corner Museum
For those looking for something more modest, I invite you to visit the Eaton Corner Museum, $5 admission, situated in my (Ann’s) hometown, and from 5 p.m. on you are welcome to gather at my home (address to be provided later), for pizza, and salads made with home-grown vegetables. We will have a final swap and music. BYOB.
