What do know before booking a storyteller

A storyteller tells from memory rather than reading from a book. The listener is very important in the storytelling process. For stories to live, they need the hearts, minds and ears of listeners. Without the listener, there is no story. In order to find the best person for your engagement, please consider what kinds of stories, themes, backgrounds, or specialties you would like from the artist. 

Choosing a storyteller

Storytellers of Canada-Conteurs du Canada is not a booking agent. We share calls on behalf of inquirers and ask members to get in touch with them directly. We also provide a Directory of Storytellers where individual storytellers describe their repertoire, experience, travel availability, preferred age group and contact information. 

Rates

The rate for storytellers recommended by SC-CC is currently a minimum of $250 per performance up to one hour. This rate reflects the time to research, craft and learn a story as well as the experience and professional development involved. Tellers may negotiate their own rates.

SC-CC is not a booking agent for our members and cannot guarantee rates or availability. We share calls and opportunities on behalf of inquirers and ask our members to get in touch with the person directly. We reserve the right to not distribute calls if: We feel there is insufficient information; The storyteller is required to sign away intellectual property, copyrights or royalties; The call does not provide an artist fee. Calls must be for live events only. Special consideration may be given to other projects, so long as we feel they adequately address issues of IP and copyright. 

SC-CC may withdraw support for a call should we find out later that it does not line up with our policies.
