The protection of the Johnville Bog was fiercely fought for by Bishop’s professors and local environmentalists. Fifteen minutes from the campus, you will be transported to a world far removed from everyday life. All of the trails, which vary in length, include boardwalk access to the bog, a view of one of the small lakes, and a trail through the woods. Our volunteer drivers will be able to accommodate personal preferences for a short or longer visit.
La Fromagerie La Station
Cost: $30

Time: Departure: 9 a.m., return: 12 p.m. (3 hours)
The thirty-minute trip from Bishop's will take you through the picturesque and historical village of Compton, home of former Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent, to a farm that produces prize-winning organic cheese. You will be guided through the operations of the farm, including the magnificent sight of rows and rows of wheels of cheese stored at perfectly controlled temperatures. A visit to their boutique is a must...who wouldn't want to take a taste of the Townships back home with them?!
Ferme Florale Libella
Cost: $20
Language: Bilingual
Time: Departure at 1:30 p.m., return at approximately 5 p.m. (3 ½ hours)
Notes: Insect repellent is highly recommended if the winds are not blowing. Participants will be touching flowers and pollen.
The approximately ½ hour drive from Bishop’s will take you through a rural landscape and the town of Cookshire, to a field of raised beds filled with flowers especially chosen for the creation of bouquets. Charlene, our host, will provide a workshop on how best to create a bouquet with the flowers we will have harvested. Our intent is to create two large bouquets to adorn the memorial table honouring our storytellers who have passed in the last year, but individuals, for an extra cost of $15, will be able to pick a small bouquet for themselves. For those who would just prefer to walk, there is a hiking trail through the woods.
