On Friday we are offering a full day of workshops. In the morning, you can choose one long workshop from set 1. In the afternoon, you can choose either one long workshop from set 2 or two short workshops from sets 3 + 4.

1A: Jennifer Munro- Creating Stories that Matter

Creating Stories that Matter: In this hands-on workshop, Jennifer Munro, an award-winning storyteller, will not only share simple and effective strategies for crafting a story from an engaging beginning to a deeply meaningful and satisfying end, but also demonstrate in a fun-filled manner why humor is such a powerful tool in the storyteller’s toolbox. 

1B: Sarah Abusarar- Storytelling as a Tool for Social Transformation Using Khalila wa Dimna Fables

Through Khalila wa Dimna fables the Storytellers will explore themselves as agents of social change. We will use our modern reality to analyze these ancient tales and how they apply to our current political and social times. By connecting the stories to our personal and familial reality, we will connect to the wider picture of social transformation. 

1C: Rob Malo- Career Storyteller

Tired of your day job? Want to spend more time creating and storytelling? Want to get paid to do it? There are many tiers and types of storytellers, there are storytellers of all ages and skill level; if you dream of a career as a storyteller this workshop is for you.

1D: Judith Poirier- Conter aux tout-petits et donner confiance aux adultes qu’ils peuvent le faire aussi

Cet atelier en action, et bilingue (français-anglais), vous fera découvrir un répertoire d’histoires qui savent capter l’attention d’un public d’enfants de 5 ans et moins. Celles-ci sont de plusieurs sources traditionnelles, tant francophones qu’anglophones, et certaines sont aussi des créations de Judith. Chacune et chacun pourra s’exercer avec des histoires à raconter avec nos mains et aussi avec des objets de notre quotidien (papier, serviettes à mains, etc.). Un des objectifs de cet atelier est aussi de partager une approche qui donne confiance aux parents, éducateurs et travailleurs en action sociale dans leurs capacités à être conteurs dans leur milieu de vie et d’intervention. Judith a offert des formations sur l’art du conte auprès de centaines de personnes œuvrant dans les organismes de soutien aux parents et en petite enfance.

2A: Mavis Dumont - Truth and Reconciliation

2B: Eveline Ménard - Créer un conte à partir des archives

Cet atelier vise à découvrir la richesse des contes qui dorment dans les archives. Vous y découvrirez comment trouver plusieurs version d’une même histoire pour en extraire les éléments que vous préférez et créer votre propre histoire.

3A: Lynn Torrie - Organizing Your Story Files with Microsoft Office

Would you like to organize your stories so that you can find them and share them easily? Bring your laptop and learn how to create digital files in Microsoft Word. Discover how “tags” let you quickly search by theme, country of origin, intended audience, length and key words. 

3B: Cheryle Chagnon Greyeyes - The Teachings of the Medicine Wheel

The Medicine Wheel represents the life journey of the people. There is no right or wrong way to use the medicine wheel. It is a teaching tool, a universal symbol and personal metaphor to help us remember.

4A: Melanie Ray - Long Stories Need Not Be Long-winded

Why tell long stories? What makes a story long? How do you choose one? How do you learn it? These questions will be addressed, and questions from the listeners will be welcomed. No long stories will be told – but I hope this discussion changes that, right across the country! 

4B: Norman Perrin - The Rolling Story Stone

The Rolling Story Stone Small objects, such as an old key, a carving of a lion, a nesting doll, etc, are chosen by participants and placed on the Story Stone to inspire the composition of original stories with the help and guidance of storyteller Norman Perrin. Suitable for all ages.

4C: Capitaine Bonnefemme - Inventer un conte en 60 minutes, vraiment?

Level: Débutant

Vous êtes convaincus qu’il est difficile d’inventer un conte? Pourtant, tout ce qui nous entoure peut-être une source d’inspiration. Bien piloté, tout le monde peut le faire en moins de 60 minutes, facile! Une fois les rudiments d’un bon conte redéfini avec humour et exemples concrets, larguez les amarres avec Capitaine Bonnefemme (Nicole Fournier), amusez-vous comme si vous naviguiez sur les flots du merveilleux, et vous verrez bien! Atelier en 5 parties : 1) On écoute un conte de Capitaine Bonnefemme 2) Exercices dirigée de mise en place pour l'inspiration 3) Chacun se met à la tâche 4) Pratique 2 x 2 et finalement 5) Mini spectacle avec les volontaires.
