Storytelling Alberta
Storytelling Alberta is the trade name of T.A.L.E.S. (The Alberta League Encouraging Storytelling) and celebrates and promotes the traditional art of oral storytelling. We offer a wide variety of performances for the public and artistic development opportunities for storytellers. Founded in 1982, Storytelling Alberta initially operated as a non-profit organization, and in 2007 was awarded charitable status (#84585 8273 RR0001). We have chapters in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer and Sherwood Park – Strathcona County.
Our regular events and programs include:
∙TELLAROUNDS – Monthly story circles where tellers share stories and works-in-progress. First-timers, professional tellers and listeners are welcome!
∙STORY CAFES – Performance storytelling in a casual setting; based on a theme and featuring guest storytellers
∙CONCERTS – Special event storytelling performances
∙WORKSHOPS – Offered by Storytelling Alberta chapters to develop storytelling skills
∙STORYTELLING RETREATS – A weekend of workshops and Tellarounds to learn and enhance storytelling skills, as well as to create an opportunity to share ideas, strengthen connections and foster collaborations between storytellers
∙AWARDS PROGRAM – Storytelling Alberta has created an Awards program designed to develop, mentor and celebrate storytellers at the various stages of their storytelling lives.
∙NEWSLETTER - Storytelling Alberta publishes a semi-annual Members’ newsletter, ‘The Storyteller’, which again serves the purpose of educating, sharing ideas and enhancing connections between members
