THE FEAST FEST -  A Celebration of Asian Stories

The Federation of Asian Storytellers would like to invite all members of Storytellers of Canada to attend the inaugural FEAST FEST, an online celebration of Asian stories featuring 168 storytellers, dancers and musicians from 27 countries in Asia and around the world; with three hours of storytelling every single day from 15- 31st October.  FEAST is offering SC-CC members a discount on festival registration, but only until September 30th!

Presented by experienced storytellers, these stories showcase both the cultures and wisdom of Asia. One of FEAST’s objectives is to promote Asian stories and tellers to a wider audience of like-minded individuals who appreciate the art and passion of oral storytelling.

The live broadcasts are every day at 5pm (MULTI-LINGUAL stream) 7pm (KIDS stream) and 9pm (ADULTS stream) Singapore time.

These live timings may not be suitable for those in Canada, but a recording of each day’s session will be available for viewing on the FEAST website by the next day. The recordings will continue to be available until 30 November 2021.

Some highlights that might be of interest to Storytellers of Canada members:

  • In the Adult Stream, the 7 episode version (3.5 hours) of the Indian epic the Ramayana, presented by 14 members of our India Chapter is an obvious highlight, but Persian tales told by an Iranian, Nasruddin with a Turk, and Indian tellers sharing stories of Akbar and Birbal and collaborating with Bharatanatyam dancers . . . There’s also the launch of our fourth collection of Asian folktales, in ebook format, of the noisily titled Splish! Splash! Splosh! which features tales on the theme of water.

  • In the Multi-lingual Stream, performances by Japanese, Korean and Filipino artists in their mother tongues, as well as Indian tellers using seven of their national languages, provide fascinating exposure to the diverse cultures of Asia

  • In the Kids Stream, Panchantantra tales told in a Swiss forest, and celebrations of kamishibai, puppets, and lots of interaction offer a varied and engaging programme.

FEAST is delighted to offer SC-CC members a FULL FEST PASS at only SGD$40 (Canadian $37 approx) instead of the standard SGD$55 non-FEAST member rate. The Full Fest Pass offers access to all the programmes both live and recorded versions, with the benefit that the recordings can be viewed at your convenience all the way until the 30th November.  This offer is valid until 30 September 2021.
