THE JOB

The role would ideally suit someone who has a passion for storytelling and history. We want some who can boil down pages of historical facts into brief, entertaining stories, and also tailor the story to the intended audience. Our ideal candidate is the kind of person who when they learn about historical events can’t help but tell their mates in the pub all about them.

The job starts ASAP and will last three to five weeks, and may lead to other work in the future. Our office is based in Ealing Studios, and the role is Monday to Friday, office hours and paid at the national living wage.

Please include a short cover letter in the body of the email and attach a CV (no more than two pages). While it will be useful for us to have a look at your CV, it’s your writing which most interests us. Therefore, to shortlist candidates, we’re setting a short exercise.

Pick a British castle and tell us about one true story from that castle’s history. We would like a one sentence summary and the actual story in fewer than 400 words. The events should have occurred more than a century ago, all the details you include must be true and please include a link to where you got the raw historical information. We’re looking to see how you can boil down a story to its most interesting elements and how you tell it.

The deadline is midday on Monday 5th September. Applications received after this date will not be read. Please do not contact us any other way as in the past we have been inundated with calls and social media messages which make it hard to, you know, work.
