FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

STORYSAVE TO CELEBRATE LAUNCH OF 16TH CD Project:

Tales of Love, Laughter and Learning AND Ballads of Love, Laughter and Learning

Two single CDs from beloved Storyteller and Balladeer, Stewart Cameron

Vancouver, British Columbia (July 8, 2016) - StorySave, a program of Storytellers of Canada - Conteurs du Canada (SC-CC), is pleased to announce the launch of its 16th StorySave project, Tales of Love, Laughter and Learning AND Ballads of Love, Laughter and Learning by Stewart Cameron.

Both these CDs will have their official launch at the Storytellers of Canada’s National Storytelling Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia: To Hear and Be Heard: Tales to Link Us All  2016.  This is the 24th Annual Conference of the SC-CC, held from July 7 to 10th. The launch takes place on the University of British Columbia Campus, in the Isabel MacInnes Room, at the Walter Gage Residence, 5959 Student Union Blvd., July 8th at 3:30pm. It is open to the public.

The StorySave Program was established by SC-CC as a means of enhancing storytelling’s living contribution to Canada’s oral and literary heritage through the recording of the voices of elders from the Canadian storytelling community on multi-volume CD sets, an audio website, and aired on SC-CC’s very own online radio station: SC-Radio-CC. Tellers selected for inclusion are those who tell out of very particular repertoires, and have something unique to offer.

Stewart Cameron was arguably one of Canada’s best traditional ballad singers and storytellers. He performed regularly at folk and storytelling festivals in Ontario in the 1970s and 1980s. He had an undeniable passion for ancient stories, whether told or sung, and was able to bring them alive for all who were lucky enough to see and hear him perform. Sadly, he died young without ever having made a professional recording. StorySave is pleased to present two CDs of Stewart’s work: Tales of Love, Laughter and Learning, and its companion, Ballads of Love, Laughter and Learning. The pair were put together from refurbished archive material spanning a decade to ensure that the magic of his unforgettable talent can be enjoyed once more.

Stewart’s daughter Moira Cameron nominated him as a StorySave teller, and worked tirelessly along with her brother Duncan to compile the work of her father. Moira says, “My father, Stewart Cameron, was probably one of the best ballad singers and storytellers I have ever heard. Of course, I may be a wee bit biased, but not much. Sadly, he died young, never having made a professional recording of his extensive repertoire of traditional tales and story-songs.  Why? Because he thought no one would be interested. Well, I believe he was wrong. People most definitely will be interested in hearing his unparalleled skill both in the tales he told and stories he sung. His music has been the legacy left to my brother and me. And now it will be a legacy left for all.”
