Honouring Their Stories by Louise Profeit-LeBlanc

Louise Profeit-LeBlanc is a Traditional storyteller from the Nacho Nyak Dän First Nation in northern Yukon. Growing up in the small village of Mayo, Louise was nurtured by the traditional stories told by her grandmother Ellen Profeit, a masterful storyteller. Many more elders shared their stories with Louise, and early on she dedicated herself to storytelling and to the promotion of Indigenous stories.

Louise's 30 year commitment to the cultural and artistic heritage of her people includes being cofounder of the Yukon International Storytelling Festival and one of the original members of the Society of Yukon Artists of Native Ancestry. Both of these organizations helped to inspire an artistic revival and recognition of Indigenous art in the territory, while laying a strong foundation for further advancement and evolution of all Indigenous art practices in the North. Louise herself has continued to travel as a storyteller, writer and teacher, performing throughout Canada.

Honouring Their Stories is Louise's first recording. This single CD album has Louise sharing the stories of four of her many mentors, in an effort to honour their teachings and their legacies.

You can learn more about Louise and this recording in a podcast created to accompany the album. The podcast is called The Wealth of Elders and was produced by David Merleau, Marion Gruner, Susan Charters, Murray McGregor, and Ruth Danziger. It's available as a free download from CD Baby and you'll find it along with the rest of her album for sale at this link.
