Tom Lips is a gifted storyteller who has worked with a wide range of materials, from ancient epics (the Odyssey, the Iliad, the Mabinogion, the Kalevala) to traditional folk tales and legends of many lands, to literary stories, poetry, and his own original stories.  He favours tales of high adventure, laughter and the supernatural.  Tom performs for audiences of all ages, but most often for adults, youth and children aged 10 and older.

An active member of Ottawa StoryTellers for over two decades, Tom now lives in Whitehorse, Yukon. He has performed many times at storytelling festivals (Ottawa, Toronto, North Bay, Westport), and various special events and venues (e.g. the Museum of Civilization, the Governor General’s Residence, July 1st festivities).  He is a veteran of major storytelling series, (including frequent participation in the National Arts Centre 4th Stage and Signature series and the “Stories from the Ages” epic series).   Tom is also a published poet, a writer of stories, and an accomplished singer-songwriter who often combines music with storytelling (accompanying himself on an acoustic guitar).  His three CDs of original, eclectic songs have made many friends across Canada and abroad.

He has offered beginners’ workshops on storytelling and songwriting. Tom is available for concerts, corporate engagements, special events, and workshop presentations.  He can also develop original stories and songs for performance at special events and programs.
