A storyteller, playwright and actress, Sylvi Belleau has been working with young audiences for almost 40 years. In 1985, she founded the Théâtre de la Source and created plays from tales she imagined or adaptsed. She has written a dozen plays for young audiences (Confiture le dragon qui aimait les fruits, Hanuman, Befana la sorcière de Noël, La Femme squelette, etc.). Her CD book Grindel et le bouc de Noël was published by Planète rebelle in 2013. Then she discovered the Art of Storytelling. In 2019, Storytellers of Canada-Conteurs du Canada presented her the Storykeeper award.
For over 35 years, Sylvi has been sharing her passion for storytelling with young and old alike. In 2010, she founded Festilou, a storytelling festival for young people, and co-produced the podcast series Petites sagesse, which puts storytellers from Quebec and French-speaking Canada on the air. She has directed the youth programmation at the Théâtre de l'Esquisse and the Arbraconte collective for 23 years. Her shows (theatre and storytelling) have been performed in schools, libraries and municipalities in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, France, Martinique and even India during a study trip in 2001 and 2016.
An experienced artist in schools, she has a solid background in working with young people. She has also been involved in the Culture at School programme since 1995. Sylvi Belleau has taken part in several storytelling festivals.
She is a doctoral student in performing arts and screen arts from Université Laval and a master's degree in dramatic arts from UQAM.
