St. John's Storytelling Festival
The St. John’s Storytelling Festival is a not-for-profit organization that has been active in the Newfoundland and Labrador storytelling community since 2004 –first under the guidance of the St.John’s Folk Arts Council (now the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society),and as of 2007, as an independent, provincially incorporated entity. The St.John’s Storytelling Festival hosts and organizes an annual storytelling festival, bringing storytellers from across the province and the country, as well as from other countries, to St. John’s and environs.
The St. John’s Storytelling Festival showcases Newfoundland and Labrador storytellers, facilitates exchange between visiting and local storytellers, and contributes to the development of new storytellers in the province. SJSF hosts a monthly Storytelling Circle in St. John’s, and has run a School Touring Project which organized workshops and concerts for students and teachers in various schools across the province. The festival events year round include workshops for youth and adults, group and solo shows, story walks, story slams, and storytelling for kids.
