Shantell Powell

Shan is a 2-spirit urban Inuk/canadian who grew up on the land and off the grid.  Raised in a nomadic forager/hunter/farmer family all over the country, Shan currently resides on the Haldimand Tract in Kitchener, Ontario where she is an advocate, storyteller, multidisciplinary artist, swamp hag, and chinchilla wrangler.  

She is the 2023 Yosef Wosk Fellow at the Vancouver Manuscript Intensive and a 2023 Fellow with Roots Wounds Words. She is a speculative fiction graduate of the Writers’ Studio at Simon Fraser University, a fellow in the Lived Experience Transformational Leadership Academy at Yale University, and a student of the Storytelling Certificate program at the Story Center in Kansas City. She has been published in Augur, Cloud Lake Literary Journal, Feminist Studies Journal, Yellow Medicine Journal, About Place Journal, Prairie Fire, Solarpunk Magazine, and more.  You can find more of her work on or at Nudity is Only Skin Deep ( )
