Oni Lasana

ONI (oh-knee) LASANA was born and raised in Philadelphia with paternal roots in African Khoisan people and France. Maternal roots in the indigenous Coushatta tribe of Louisiana.

A professional storyteller since 1994 she has traveled sharing joy, unity and hope in her stories throughout USA, Germany, Zimbabwe and Caribbean.

Oni is a natural chameleon of creativity, published short story writer, spoken word poet, musician (bass & shakere'), jewelry artisan, performing and teaching artist. Her greatest joy is being a wife, mother and nana to 9 grandchildren.

As the "Voice of Dunbar" she has published and produced CD's, plays and workshops on the works of poet & author, Paul Laurence Dunbar. (1872-1906). A historical interpreter of Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Ellen Watkins Harper and Ona Judge. 

A 2021 Webby Award winning voice talent for podcasts, African Folktales, and Kwanzaa Time with Oni Lasana.  Oni is presently living in the haze of Covid Creative Crazies, while producing, writing and hosting Aunti Oni Story Village, a podcast, and StoryVillage.Live a monthly family storytelling gathering once a month on Zoom.
