Acutely aware of the intersectionality of belonging, Maxine performs diverse tales and hosts cultural and literary events.

Jamaican by birth, she is driven by a deep ancestral connection to the stories passed on by her parents, grandparents, and great-grandmother, and is dedicated to preserving and highlighting lesser-known cultural narratives that reflect all aspects of her Jamaican roots. When urged by the ancestors, she tells cultural stories. She incorporates performative storytelling and is grateful for everyday life experiences in Jamaica and Barbados and as immigrant in Canada.

She co-founded “Ancestral Voices We Belong,” a program established in 2020, where she co-hosts author and cultural events that showcase and amplify Black, Indigenous, Caribbean, African authors and creatives. To date, this original program has featured 15 authors reaching international audiences, sponsored by libraries over 3 municipalities! Her innovative idea also resulted in authors reaching schools virtually and she has discovered that this work with libraries has resulted in some libraries winning awards for innovation and being nominated for EDI awards.

Maxine also presents on stories-in-law through which she seeks to inform and bring awareness to legal issues and stories in an accessible manner.
