Kathy Jessup
Storyteller Kathy Jessup has been telling tales all her life and she credits her Irish ancestry for giving her “the gift of Blarney.” For over twenty-five years, she has devoted herself to storytelling as both a career and a passion, performing in schools, libraries, concerts, and festivals across Canada and internationally. As an experienced performer, she builds an instant rapport with listeners of all ages.
Humour plays a large part in Kathy’s storytelling. She often draws upon childhood memories and real-life situations as the spark for creating new stories, and also enjoys telling world Folktales. She is especially fond of stories that make people laugh!
For Kathy, one of the best things about storytelling is that it gives her the opportunity to travel and to meet new people. Over the years, she’s shared stories in many different settings: in a tent on the banks of the Yukon River, to school children in Ireland and South Africa, at a conference of storytellers in Iceland, and - one of her favourite experiences of all- performing on stage at the Scottish International Storytelling Festival. Kathy is also a veteran of many storytelling tours, including three tours with the Canadian Children's BookCentre "Book Week" program. Her story CD “Listen Up” was recognized by the Centre as a top choice for families.
Kathy's multi-artist project, THE ALASKA HIGHWAY ROAD SHOW, is a historical production which toured western Canada and Ottawa in 2017.
Whether relating an original story or one of her favourite Irish folktales, Kathy creates a welcome story circle that draws everyone in.
Kathy is available for storytelling concerts and workshops. Concerts can be adapted to accommodate various types of audiences, occasions, venues, and program lengths.
