Born into a family of storytellers, Joan understood early in life the importance of story.   Beginning with StoryFest in Fredericton, she went on to Festivals in Montreal, Ottawa, Charlottetown, Toronto, Edmonton and Ireland.

She has done workshops and tellings for children of all ages in schools, outdoors for Fredericton Tourism, in libraries and special workshops and camps.  She has done adult workshops and tellings for Senior Centers, Residences, Groups, Corporations, Teachers and special events like the Story Café in Edmonton, The Lula Lounge in Toronto and Dublin Yarnspinners in Ireland.

Children in Ireland, Tokyo and Southern California have also heard stories from her.

Years of teaching drama have also given her a deep understanding of developing voice: how to use it effectively in pronunciation, enunciation, inflection and most importantly projection.  She has done many workshops in that field.

Recently published: ; A Treasury of Slovenian Folklore. 101 Tales from Slovenia;  translated by Barbara Kerr and retold by Joan Meade.
