Personal and wise, funny and deep, sometimes erotic are Dan Yashinsky's latest reflections on storytelling. He's an eavesdropper and connoisseur of proverbs (my favorite, from his Ghanaian friend: "If you want to walk fast, walk alone; if you want to walk far, walk with friends"). He writes of the vital importance of word-keeping. "we can hoard massive quantities of data but forget our ancestral tales, and ... we're only now discovering that we can't double-click on wisdom." Perhaps most important—in this stew of big thoughts—are the insights into Listener, the crucial, mythic hero for our time who can teach us how to listen "to voices that speak from beyond our customary bandwidth of perception."
