Stories for the Wee Folk
The seven stories that Cabral tells here for young children come from around the world: Africa and the Caribbean, and from East Indian and Native American cultures. My 11 year old came in as I was listening, said in a dismissive tone, "These stories are for little kids, aren't they?" then sat down and before long was joining in the sound effects of Coconut and the Monkey's Face. After a few stories she left but was back in about two minutes to listen to the rest of the tape. Cabral's energy, and his style which encourages the listener to take part, had caught and kept her. Young children for whom the tape is intended will certainly enjoy taking part, too, and may retain the lessons that some of the stories impart. The lessons include considering options and alternatives, helping those who are younger and studying situations to find out what you want to

This cassette was a Parents' Choice Silver Honor award winner. For slightly older children than the previous tape, this one, too, tells stories for fun and to teach life lessons. The title track reminds kids that it's not what you say - it’s how you say it -tact. Two of the nine stories are on The Nine Stories for the Wee Folk tape, too, probably because they are appropriate to both age groups and have something to say to both as well.
Like the first tape, this one exhibits high energy and fast-paced delivery.
