Canadian Children’s Book Week Tour
About the Tour
Each year in partnership with the Canadian Children’s Book Centre, SC-CC selects members to participate as storytellers in the Canadian Children's Book Week.
Canadian Children’s Book Week is the single most important national event celebrating Canadian children’s books and the importance of reading. Each May, over hundreds of readings are given to thousands of children, teens and adults in over 100 communities across the country as we make every possible effort to reach children in more remote regions and communities. Hundreds of schools, public libraries, bookstores and community centres host events as part of this major literary festival.

Canadian Children’s Book Week 2024
The 2024 theme has not been announced at this time.
The deadline for 2024 Book Week Tour applications is Tuesday February 28th 2023.

Tellers will be paid between $150 and $250 for each performance. When participating in a live tour cost for travel, accommodation and meals are covered. Expenses the storyteller might incur at home, such as childcare or loss of salary are not covered. SC-CC will pay for selected touring artist’s Book Centre memberships for one year, in the year required to participate in the Tour.
Although SC-CC now makes a financial contribution to CCBC for the tour, this covers only a small part of the costs, especially when tours return to live venues. We could not offer this program without our partnership with CCBC. A number of SC-CC members maintain memberships in CCBC, but we encourage others who are able, to consider making a small tax-deductible donation directly to the CCBC's Book Week as a token of appreciation thanking them for these opportunities provided to our members. Donate online here. Even small gestures will help strengthen this partnership and highlight storytelling as an important part of the tour.
