  Press release

Storytellers from across Canada will come to Sudbury, the Center of the Universe!

Storytelling Artists from Across Canada, will gather at Place des arts du Grand Sudbury, in Sudbury, Ontario from May 31st to June 4th 2023. The members of Storytellers of Canada – Conteurs du Canada (SC-CC) will come, for their 30th annual Conference, in Northern Ontario for the first time! They will discover this great region, the “Center of the universe” named by the organizers because of the SNOLAB, and the Sudbury public will discover a rich variety of storytellers.

The SC-CC, Canada’s only national arts organization representing the art of storytelling, connects oral storytellers through workshops and concerts that reflect our culture and inspire all people through storytelling. Every year, the SC-CC organizes a conference in a different province. This year’s conference theme is a nice nod to Sudbury: "A penny for your thought, a nickel for a story."

The host of the conference, the Centre franco-ontarien de folklore, celebrated its 50th anniversary last year and is the organizer of the only French Storytelling festival in Ontario, the Festival Les vieux m’ont conté. This time, more than 30 artists will tell their stories, or give workshops, in english and in french. They will also discover a universe of stories.

Nearly a 100 storytellers are expected to be in Sudbury, many for a week, to explore the area and the Conference. In addition to full day workshops and master class options, there will be three public storytelling concerts: in French, in English and Bilingual. Be prepared for stories full of wisdom that will make you reflect on your present, your hopes, and your memories.

Stay tuned for more information about this great event!
