Tea ‘n’ Tales hosted by the Guelph Guild of Storytellers
The Guelph Guild of Storytellers and the Guelph Enabling Garden have announced their line-up for this summer’s Tea ‘n’ Tales, beginning June 12, with performances every Friday until September 11. New tellers and new entertainers have been added for our 19th year. And all 17 performances will be at or near the Enabling Garden.
Seniors (and others) are invited to the 14 Fridays of storytelling, to hear 28 plus different tellers: some local, some regional, some from afar.
The organizers are planning three special programmes:
- on Canada Day and – “Under the Magic Ash”
- on John Galt Day, August 1.
- Again, this year we will have another family performance for Rib-Fest on August 29.
It should be noted that, while the Saturday programmes are specifically directed towards children, the Friday programmes are not. The Friday tellers have shaped their stories for adult audiences.
We are honoured to have Robert Munsch as our patron, and we dedicate this season to this iconic storyteller.
As for the past 18 years, the programme is free, but donations for the Storytellers' Guild and the Enabling Garden are encouraged and welcomed.
It should be noted that the opinions expressed by any of the tellers or performers are not necessarily those of either the Guelph Enabling Garden or the Guelph Guild of Storytellers.

June 12: 10: am. Toronto’s Gloria Jean Bubba and host, Brian Holstein, with prelude entertainment by Trillium Jazz Trio.
June 19: 10: am Elora’s Donna McCaw and Burlington’s Michael Williams, with prelude entertainment by Guelph vocalist Tim Alberts.
June 26: 10: Tellers from afar -global storyteller Norman Perrin and Stephanie Holt from St. Thomas with prelude entertainment by The Royal City Ambassadors
JULY 1 CANADA DAY: 10: am Burlington’s Barb Vollick, locals Brian Holstein and Larry Gibbs, with entertainment by the Guelph’s Great Wooden Trio.
July 3: Popular local teller, Brad Woods and Kitchener’s Mary McCullum Baldasaro with prelude entertainment by Guelph’s de Jembe Drummers.
July 10: Ecuadorian teller Maria del Carmen Ordonez, along with our own Maryann Bailey, and prelude entertainment by Brampton’s folk artist, Paul Caufield.
July 17: Lynn Torrie, of Toronto and Burlington’s Brenda Byers, with prelude entertainment by Guelph’s accordion player, Garry Lazzan.
July 24: Guelph author and storyteller Michelle Wan, and Michelle Braniff of Cambridge with prelude entertainment Guelph’s Dan Sawchuk.
July 31 : Toronto’s Ruth Danziger, and Larry Gibbs with prelude entertainment Guelph’s Chris Dallan.
August 1: Family Friendly Storytelling “Under the Magic Ash with Toronto’s Ruth Danziger and Guelph’s “The Wizard” (aka Brendan Rogers), with prelude sing-a-long with Larry Gibbs.
August 7: Durham Region’s Heather Whaley and Guelph’s John Camelford with prelude entertainment by the violin of Allison Leroux.
August 14: Toronto’s June Brown and Elizabeth Matson of Madison, Wisconsin, with prelude entertainment from The Snippets.
August 21: Baden teller, Gordon Stubley and Toronto’s Susan Ida Boucaud, with prelude entertainment from Michael Schultz.
August 23 at Ribfest: Family Friendly Storytelling “Under the Magic Ash”, with Kait Taylor and Sarah Abusarar, with prelude sing-a-long with Larry Gibbs.
August 28: Internationally renowned Sara Abusarar will join the wonderful Jay Wilson of Guelph, with prelude entertainment with the return of the Royal City Ambassadors.
September 4: Kitchener’s Kait Taylor and newcomer to Tea ‘n’ Tales, Anthony Audin of Toronto with prelude entertainment by Kim Michelle.
September 12, Season finale: the powerful duo of Adwoa Badoe and Sya VanGeest with prelude entertainment by folk singer Ian Reid.
