Call for Tellers - Edmonton Conference May 2017
2016-11-04
This year TALES is excited to be hosting the Storytellers of Canada/Conteurs du Canada national conference in conjunction with our annual festival in Edmonton, Alberta. We invite tellers who will be traveling to Edmonton for the conference to apply to tell as part of the festival’s daytime programming.
The theme for the conference and festival is 150 Golden Threads. Woven into our theme are strands of national history and heritage, milestones, prairie gold, some good yarns, and the lives of memorable Canadians. We welcome proposals on a variety of topics and in a variety of storytelling styles. It’s always exciting to see how storytellers interpret the theme!
We are accepting proposals for 50 minute solo or shared sets. One of our stages is aimed at young children and their families. Our aim is to pay tellers $250 Canadian for a solo set, $125 for a shared set. We are, however, unable to fund travel.
From our website, www.storyfestalberta.ca , please scroll down to “propose a set” and follow the instructions for the online form. The deadline for submissions is November 30th, 2016. Tellers whose work is unfamiliar to the jury may be asked to share audio or video links for the jury’s consideration.
Watch for the call for proposals for our evening concerts: “Canadian Spirits” and “Tales, Trails, and Rails” next month!
