Storytellers of Canada-Conteurs du Canada Solidarity Statement
In light of events over the past few weeks which have highlighted an ongoing and deeply-rooted racism problem- both nationally and internationally- we want to be clear that Storytellers of Canada-Conteurs du Canada strongly condemns anti-Black discrimination, and all forms of racism that permeate our society. SC-CC is committed to amplifying the voices of Black artists and Black arts professionals and we will share anti-racism learning materials and other materials that highlight the work of black storytelling artists and the importance of storytelling in understanding one another.
We recognize and honor all of those whose lives have been cut tragically short by police violence. Storytellers of Canada recognizes the inherent racism in our country’s colonial roots and since 2016, has been actively working towards reconciliation with the help of our Indigenous Advisory Council. We will continue this work, and to work against anti-black racism. We welcome suggestions and are intent on learning how to contribute to a more inclusive society.
