Hear Here Grassroots Community StoryTelling Event

Please let us know by March 22nd if you are coming!

Hello Story Lovers,

Ottawa StoryTellers is hosting another big storyfest, the purpose of which is to build our storytelling community by reconnecting with old friends and making new ones, listening to great stories, and having some fun. This year, we invite the Ontario network of Storytellers of Canada/Conteurs du Canada to join us for their/your winter gathering! We’re really hoping you will be part of this celebration of story and the storytelling community.  If you are from out-of-town, we can offer limited billeting on a first come, first served basis before the March 22nd deadline. We expect this to be a very popular event, so we suggest that you confirm your attendance as early as possible.

Where and When

  • Saturday, April 6, 2019, at

  • St Brigid’s Centre for the Arts’ Kildare Room, 310 St. Patrick Street, Ottawa (Unfortunately, not wheelchair accessible. There is a short flight of stairs.)

  • 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

    • Brigid’s Well, the pub (beverages only) adjacent to the Kildare Room, will be open from 4 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.

$40 for 12 hours of stories, a workshop, coffee, tea, and snacks, pizza dinner (pizza, crudités, and dessert), and wonderful community time.

$30 for all the above without the pizza dinner

Morning – 10-minute stories, with breaks

Lunch - You can bring your own (there are refrigerators), go out to a nearby restaurant, or be part of a group order from Subway

Afternoon – More 10-minute stories

1 ½ hour participatory workshop sponsored by Storytellers of Canada/Conteurs du Canada led by Betty Bennett and Angelica Ottewill – “How to enhance and enliven a story through music, audience participation, and tandem telling”. Small groups will rework a section of The Lonely Giant, creating spoken parts and deciding how to incorporate music, audience participation, and props, if any. All will then demonstrate how they have solved the above tasks by performing their section of the story

                      And more 10-minute stories

Evening – Pizza supper, with crudités and dessert

Party with casual singing/sing-along and short, funny stories led by Tom Lips

Getting a spot as a teller

The great thing about this event is the chance to hear as many voices as possible, so we are asking that stories be no longer than 10 minutes. To be considered for the line-up, please send a short proposal as described below. As there are sure to be more offers to tell than spots on the program, selection will be by lottery.
