"The Honour of One is the Honour of All", Conference 2018
C. Travel Guide
Plan your arrival at the very latest, to be by 4pm, Thursday, July 5th.
The formal start of Conference is at 5pm, Thursday, July 5th.
The times, timing and prices in this TRAVEL GUIDE are approximate because the exact information for July 2018 has not yet been issued and summer traffic may be slower. Check the websites provided for updated information.
1) Driving a vehicle
Trent University is about a 2 hour drive from Toronto or 3 hour drive from Ottawa as a guideline. Use the Gzowski College address above for mapping out your best driving route.
- If interested in a give-get exchange between those who can offer a ride and those needing one, send an email to email@example.com
- There is metered parking beside Gzowski College. If you are staying at Trent, the parking cost is included. Go to reception immediately when you first arrive to pick up your parking note to keep displayed on your dashboard.
Transportation to Peterborough from Toronto airports is available in different options by light rail and bus, bus, private shuttle van or private limousine. Ask your travel agent to work out your best flight time and ground transportation if you are not comfortable doing this on your own.
OPTION A: Century Transportation shuttle ‘door to door’
Century Transportation through Patricia Ma in Peterborough provides a private shuttle service from Toronto Pearson International Airport to Gzowski College booked individually or for a group corporate rate. Prices start at $110 each way for one person, BUT prices will be reduced by Century Transportation consolidating as many persons as possible in their vehicles for substantial reductions.
To obtain the consolidated reductions available, conference attendees must e-mail their arrival and departure times to firstname.lastname@example.org. Write ‘Storytellers of Canada Conference Trent University’ in the email subject line. Further information, online booking and payment are at: https://www.centurybus.ca/
OPTION B: Greyhound Bus to downtown Peterborough https://www.greyhound.ca/
Greyhound’s schedule has bus departure times from Pearson Toronto International Airport Terminal 1, Greyhound bus station downtown Toronto at Bay and Dundas, the Greyhound bus stop at Scarborough Town Centre and other stops along the way to Peterborough Transit Terminal. The cost is about $15 if you book in advance online (non refundable), but the schedule is fixed. Read the online schedule to estimate the length of ride depending where you get on.
You’ll need to arrange a taxi or catch the public bus from Peterborough Transit Terminal to Gzowski College. The ride takes 20 minutes or less.
- Capitol Taxis (705) 742 4242 as an example, charges about $25.
- TRENT EAST BANK public bus stops right outside Gzowski College. Fare is $2.50. http://trentcentral.ca/documents/transit-schedules/SummerTransit_web.pdf
This option is ONLY DURING DAY HOURS and could involve several steps to coordinate. You’ll need to purchase a ticket at each transfer, or the trip can cost less with a pre-purchased PRESTO card to tap on and off at every transfer.
Step 1a) UP Express: Toronto Pearson International Airport Terminal 1 to Union Station https://www.upexpress.com/
UP express light rail leaves every 15 minutes from Terminal 1 and takes 25 minutes to reach Union Station. Cost is about $9 for an adult and $5 for senior one way. (If your plane lands at Terminal 3, take the free shuttle to Terminal 1 to get on the UP Express.)
Step 1b) Shuttle bus: Billy Bishop Airport (Porter) to stop opposite Union Station http://www.portstoronto.com/airport/passenger-information/to-from/airport-shuttle.aspx
Outside the airport doors is a free shuttle bus to Union Station- tell the driver you want to catch the GO train. The shuttle leaves every 15minutes and takes about 15 minutes to get to Union Station.
Step 2) GO Train: Union Station Lakeshore EAST to Oshawa’s GO Bus/Train Terminal http://www.gotransit.com/timetables/en/schedules/schedules_window.aspx?tableid=88&dir=N&date=2015-12-31&parentid=1
Inside Union Station walk to the GO train area (not VIA). (Warning: For all of us, it’s confusing inside Union Station because of construction. Ask for directions.)
Read the GO ceiling monitors for time and platform of next GO train going Lakeshore EAST to Oshawa and get on board. Oshawa GO trains leave Union Station starting at 12:13 p.m. and throughout the afternoon. The trip takes 58 minutes. Cost is $12.00. There is a senior’s discount.
FROM OSHAWA right to bus stop at door of Gzowski College:
At Oshawa GO/Bus/Train/VIA Train Station take Bus #88.
Bus is on a fixed schedule of 12:16 p.m., 1:16 p.m., 3:16 p.m. and 4:16 p.m to Peterborough. The trip takes about 2 hours. Cost is about $15.00. There is a senior’s discount.
OPTION D: Limousine service
Private Limousine service is available from Toronto Pearson International Airport at double the shuttle van prices or more. This can be arranged on the internet with different Pearson International limousine service providers. If there’s a group coming with you, the cost might be shared amongst yourselves, but it is booked and charged under one name.
