Gabriel Newman is a storyteller, actor, director, writer and teacher who lives in Vernon, BC. After moving to Vernon he created the Ghost Tours of Vernon, an outdoor historical/paranormal walking storytelling tour of downtown Vernon. Creating the tour sparked his interest in community stories and he has gone on to create numerous theatrical and storytelling events around Vernon.
In 2009 Newman went to the University of British Columbia where he completed his Master of Fine Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Performance. His thesis work focused on a new form he created called Social Potluck which combines dinner table storytelling with potluck performances. Social Potluck in a true community storytelling performance project that celebrates community storytelling and the oral geography we live in.
Newman also teaches acting and theatre history at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan and Thompson Rivers University.
