Charly Chiarelli was born in Racalmuto, Sicily, and raised in
the industrial north-end of Hamilton, Canada. As well as having
mastered the lost art of being a "Pin Boy" for downtown
bowling alleys, Charly has a Master's degree in Social Work and
degrees in Psychology and Linguistics.
Charly Chiarelli has become one of the world's premiere
storytellers, widely known for his two earlier one-person plays,
Cu'Fu and Mangiacake. And now he has a new hit called
Sunamabeach to complete the trilogy. Charly has been
inducted into the McMaster University Alumni Hall of Fame -
along with inductee notables like Martin Short, Dave Thomas
Eugene Levy and astronaut, Roberta Bondar.
The plays Cu'Fu and Mangiacake were filmed for international
broadcast with BRAVO Television, directed by Gemeni Award
winner, Dennis Beauchamp and produced by renowned media
executive, Harvey Glatt. Mangiacake became two shows:
Mangiacake and Brutta Figura. All of Charly's works have
toured numerous international live venues including the
National Art Centre in Ottawa and the Rome International
Storytelling Festival - standing ovations abound.
Excerpts from Charly's Cu'Fu are published in a book, Sweet
Lemons: an anthology of works by celebrated AmericanSicilian and Canadian-Sicilian writers. Charly has also written a
libretto for a symphonic piece called The Birds Beyond. Juno
award winning composer, John Burge, teamed up with Charly to
write the score for this piece - which has been performed by
the Kingston and Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestras.
Charly has also written and performed other works for children,
Ho Ho Hum, Once Upon a Pizzeria and Giovanni And The
North Wind, which have recieved radio broadcast throughout
Canada and were featured in international live performance
venues. As a virtuoso chromatic and diatonic harmonica player,
Charly has contributed to hundreds of recordings - as well as
recording his own works.
There’s more info re Cu Fu at www.charlychiarelli.com. Charly has been accepted
as a Wikipedia notable for acting, writing, storytelling and music - and has enough
“boggle entries to google the mind!” (Ph: 613 - 766-0198 - Canada).
